MIXED CHORUS (Glee Club)
2 Trimesters/1 Credit
Grades: 9-12
Prerequisite: None
Fees: $85 District Activity Fee, performance outfit fee                       

If you like to sing, start here! Students learn how to sing in harmony with good singing technique, including solo singing. Songs are set with light choreography. Members sing all styles of music, including Glee, world music, chant, light classical and musical theater. Students are introduced to reading music. Members perform in four evening school concerts and in additional performances outside of school. This course prepares students to sing in Men’s Choir (The Hi-Topz) or Women’s Choir.  

Students receive 1.0 fine arts credit for successfully completing this course.

MEN’S CHOIR (The Hi-Topz)
3 Trimesters/1.5 Credit
Grades: 9-12
Prerequisite: Mixed Chorus or audition with Director
Fees: $85 District Activity Fee, hi-top shoe fee                                                              

This popular choir teaches men to become strong, competent singers. Wearing a tuxedo provided by the school, the men develop their voices as tenor, baritone and bass singers. Members sing everything from chant to Do-wop, classical to musical theater with choreography, especially for OVATIONS! in the Spring. Learning targets cover how to sing with good tone, expand the singing range, read music, work as a team and appreciate music from all over the world. These young men perform at six evening school concerts, plus festivals and performances outside of school. This course prepares men for singing in Concert Choir.  

Students in the course are typically freshman and sophomore level students.  Transfer students may be a good fit for this class depending if they are at an intermediate skill level. 

Students receive 1.0 fine arts credit for successfully completing this course.  

WOMEN'S CHOIR (Cantabile)
3 Trimesters/1.5 Credit
Grades: 9-12
Prerequisite: Mixed Chorus or audition with Director
Fees: $85 District Activity Fee and choir/shoe fee                                                             

This outstanding choir teaches women to become vibrant and expressive singers. Wearing an elegant robe provided by the school, the women develop their voices as soprano, mezzo-soprano and alto singers. Members continue the tradition of singing outstanding music from world music to Do-wop, classical to musical theater with choreography, especially for OVATIONS! in the Spring. Learning targets cover how to sing with good tone, expand the singing range, read music, work as a team and appreciate all styles of music. These young women perform at six evening school concerts, plus festivals and performances outside of school. This course prepares women for singing in Concert Choir.

CONCERT CHOIR (OSAA Competition Choir)
3 Trimesters/1.5 Credit
Grades: 10-12
Prerequisite: Singing experience or Men's/Women's Choir, audition with Director, OSAA academic eligibility Fees: $85 District Activity Fee, tuxedo shirt, black dress pants and character/dress shoe fee, tour                                                              

Concert Choir members are confident singers with strong vocal technique and sightreading skills. This OSAA-sanctioned choir is our large SATB competition and tour choir. Members sing world music, classical and musical theater in the Spring. Learning targets cover advanced tone production, diction, languages, expansion of the singing range, working as a team and the examination and appreciation of important historical masterworks. Members perform at six evening school concerts, plus many festivals and performances outside of school.  Concert Choir represents Southridge at OSAA events, including Metro and State competitions throughout the Winter and Spring. Members wear a robe provided by the school. 

Students in the course are typically Sophomore - Senior level students.  Transfer students may be a good fit for this class depending if they are at an advanced skill level.

Students receive 1.0 fine arts credit for successfully completing this course.  

ADVANCED VOCAL ENSEMBLE (Avancé)
3 Trimesters/.5 Credit
Grades: 10-12
Prerequisite: Singing experience or Men's/ Women's Choir, audition with Director, OSAA academic eligibility, concurrent membership in Concert Choir
Fees: Tuxedo Vest Ensemble/Anastasia Formal Dress 

This 24-member SATB select vocal ensemble is our premiere touring and performance ensemble. Members are comfortable soloing and sightread at the highest level. Avancé sings vocal jazz, exceptional world music and musical theater. Student must be able to freely move to the music as many pieces are staged or have choreography. Avancé meets during zero period, Tuesday ­ Thursday from 6:45 am ­­- 7:40 am. Learning targets cover advanced vocal techniques, vocal styling, working as a team through staged performances.  Performing at six major concerts each year, Avancé represents Southridge at area businesses and events throughout the Winter and Spring. 

ENSEMBLE ACCOMPANIST
1-3 Trimesters/.5 -1.5 Credit
Grades: 9-12
Prerequisite: Piano lessons and skillful playing, audition and Director’s approval.
Students with piano skills learn the art of accompanying, by rehearsing and performing with one of our five choirs.
