Southridge High School Choir Program
OUR MISSION: To provide opportunities for to develop skills in singing that will foster life-long enjoyment of music-making and the performing arts.
As the Director of Choirs at Southridge since 2003, Mr. Robert Hawthorne is an accomplished music educator, singer, pianist, composer and conductor. Hawthorne has qualified his choirs for OSAA state competition every year. He is published with Oxford University Press as well as Church Publishing of New York. He has received commissions for choral works in Illinois, Iowa, Washington and Oregon. In addition to teaching for 18 years, Hawthorne worked 5 years as a music editor for OCP Publications and as a music director for over 20 years in various churches. A graduate of Whitworth University, he has studied composition with Alice Parker & conducting with Robert Fountain, Weston Noble, Howard Swan & Rodney Eichenberger. He enjoys gardening, cycling and coaching Special Olympics basketball. Robert lives in Beaverton with his wife, Wendy, daughter, Hannah, and son, Isaac.
